Views
Learn about different views for organizing and displaying your data
Views allow you to customize how you see and organize your data in Pilfer. Each entity type (scouts, assets, projects, spaces) supports multiple view modes, grouping options, sorting, and property visibility controls.
View Modes
Each entity supports three basic view types:
List View
A tabular view showing items in rows with columns for properties. Best for:
- Seeing many items at once
- Comparing specific properties across items
- Detailed information in a structured format
Grid View
A card-based view displaying items as visual cards. Best for:
- Visual browsing
- Quick scanning of items
- When images are important
Kanban View
A board view for organizing items into columns based on a grouping property (like status). Best for:
- Workflow management
- Visualizing progress
- Moving items through stages
Display Configuration
Each view can be customized through the display configuration panel:
Grouping
- Primary Grouping: Main way to group items (by status, priority, category, project, space, label, or none)
- Secondary Grouping: Additional grouping layer for more complex organization
- Board Grouping: For kanban view, determines the columns
Sorting
- Sort Column: Which property to sort by
- Sort Direction: Ascending or descending
Property Visibility
Toggle which properties are visible in the view. This lets you focus on the information most relevant to your current task.
Compactness
Control the density of information:
- Compact: More items visible, less detail
- Regular: Balanced view
- Relaxed: More spacing, easier to read
Saved Views
You can save view configurations for quick access:
- Configure your view (grouping, sorting, properties, etc.)
- Click the views dropdown
- Click "Save Current View"
- Give it a name
Saved views can be:
- Personal: Only visible to you
- Shared: Visible to your team (for organization-scoped entities)
- Default: Automatically applied when viewing the entity type
Project and Space Scoped Views
Views can be scoped to specific projects or spaces:
- Project Views: Saved views that only apply when viewing items within a project
- Space Views: Saved views that only apply when viewing items within a space
- Global Views: Apply across all items regardless of project/space context
This allows you to have different view configurations for different contexts, optimizing how you see data for specific use cases.
